Secularism is most recently challenged by the separation of church and state, an extremely challenging topic in that it bears upon the two subjects one avoids in polite conversation: religion, and politics. Separation of Church and State web article on ReligiousTolerance.org. This one gives an overview of what the history is, what the Constitution says, and what the various rulings have been.
